One of Israel’s lesser-known prime ministers, Levi Eshkol, served as Israel’s third prime minister from 1963 to 1969 (following David Ben-Gurion (1948-1954, 1955-1963) and Moshe Sharett (1954-1955)). An extraordinarily accomplished man, Eshkol is best known for serving as Israel’s prime minister during the June 1967 Six-Day War. Notably, Eshkol helped prepare Israel for the Six-Day War and was instrumental in forming Israel’s first national unity government, which took power just before the start of that war.
