1936 – 1943

Abraham de Jong was 7 years old, born in 1936 in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.

He was the younger brother of David de Jong and grew up in a warm Dutch-Jewish family.

After the German occupation in 1940, Abraham was forced to wear the yellow star from age 5.

In 1941 he was expelled from his local school and sent to a crowded Jewish school.

He loved drawing airplanes and wanted to be a pilot.

In 1942 his father was taken for forced labor and disappeared.

In early 1943 Abraham, his mother, and his siblings were arrested and sent to Kamp Vught.

He was placed in the boys' children's barracks, where his older brother David tried to protect him.

On 6 June 1943 the SS ordered all Vught children to leave.

Abraham was transported to Westerbork, then on 8 June 1943 deported to Sobibor.

He arrived on 11 June 1943 after three days in a sealed cattle car without water.

Murdered on arrival in the gas chambers, Abraham was killed at age 7, together with his brother.
