"Lea van Dam | Died Sobibor, June 1943
1936 – 1943
Lea van Dam was 7 years old, born in 1936 in The Hague, Netherlands.
She was part of the van Dam family — sister to Jacob, Benjamin, Rebecca, Esther, Samuel, Rachel, Mozes, and Miriam van Dam.
After the occupation, Lea was expelled from school in 1941 and forced to wear the yellow star from age 5.
She loved to help her mother in the kitchen and care for her younger cousins.
In early 1943 her family was arrested and sent to Kamp Vught.
Lea was placed in the girls' children's barracks.
On 6 June 1943 the SS ordered all Vught children to leave.
Lea was transported to Westerbork, then on 8 June 1943 deported to Sobibor.
She arrived on 11 June 1943.
Murdered on arrival, Lea was killed at age 7, together with her eight siblings and cousins.
The van Dam family was almost entirely destroyed.
