 Mazel tov! Israeli chess grandmaster Boris Gelfand has been selected for induction into the World Chess Hall of Fame in St. Louis, Missouri - becoming the first Israeli player in history to receive the honor.

Gelfand, who made aliyah from Belarus in 1998, will take his place alongside legends of the game including Bobby Fischer, Garry Kasparov, and Judit Polgar. His career highlights include winning the Chess Olympiad gold medal in 1990, winning the World Cup in 2009, and in 2012 reaching the World Chess Championship match against reigning champion Viswanathan Anand - forcing it to tiebreakers after drawing all 12 regulation games. A proud moment for Israeli sport.
