 Newly declassified files from Argentina show authorities knew exactly where Nazi butcher Josef Mengele was, yet he lived freely. Mengele was known as the “Angel of Death,” due to his inhumane and sadistic medical experiments on prisoners at the Nazi death camp Auschwitz. Yad Vashem — the World Holocaust Remembrance Center estimates that one million Jews were murdered at Auschwitz. Up to 5,000 Nazis are believed to have settled in Argentina, including Mengele and Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann, who was captured by Israeli agents and executed after his trial in Jerusalem.
